I have always been drawn to the power of the ocean, a symphony of motion. It’s thunderous claps upon the beach and the breeze it brings to the shore. Gliding in and out of the land, tidal. This is a 35mm film negative scanned, enlarged and printed on 11” x 18” on transparency. The watercolor paper is coated and exposed in a UV bed. The paper is rinsed and put though a bleach solution to soften the image and remove some of the original pigment in order to bring forward the texture of the watercolor paper. Then laid to dry. The cyanotype is 1 of 4.
The cedar siding is cut to allow 1 ½” on each side and 2” top and bottom. The split pine I have been working with this year as well. After the pine failed during construction, I sanded it and sealed it with urethane. As Reflections was coming together, it supported the random beauty and insight this split piece of pine offered and it fit into the wood wall mount structure. Offering a wood wave-like pattern and enriching the blues of the ocean cyanotype. As if a piece of driftwood that’s been tossed about in the symbiotic movement water found it’s place.
