Alternative Photographic Processes

Like a wave moving through the ocean, I don't know where I'm headed sometimes and that's okay. I have always been drawn to the power of the ocean, a symphony of motion. It’s thunderous claps upon the beach and the breeze it brings to the shore; gliding in and out of the land, tidal.
This is a 35mm film negative scanned, enlarged and printed on 11" x 18" transparency. Developing a cyanotype was a new process for me to experiment with. I exposed the coated watercolor paper in a UV bed after many attempts outside. The paper is rinsed and put though a bleach solution to soften the image and remove some of the original pigment in order to bring forward the texture of the watercolor paper. The cyanotype is one of four. I appreciated the layering of this image that the cyanotype process offered.
The reclaimed cedar siding and split pine supported the random beauty and forms the wall mount structure while offering a wood wave-like pattern and enriching the blues of the ocean. It's as if a piece of driftwood that has been tossed about in the symbiotic movement water found its place.
